To compete in today’s marketplace, it’s necessary for many business people to travel. Nothing can really take the place of face-to-face interaction. And, many industries have trade shows and conferences, where there can be many opportunities for networking, business deals, and education. However, many business owners blanch when faced with the expenses associated with their employees’ business trips. Since these trips are often worth the cost, here are a couple ways to save a little money on the cost of business trips.
1. Airfare
As most travelers know, the cost of airfare can vary widely. Luckily, it’s easy to find the best rate on a flight, and there are many websites that can help you do just that. But it’s a myth that one site has the best deals; you might save a few bucks here or there, but rates are generally fairly constant across travel websites. So, the best way to save money on business flight is to book the travel well in advance. Make sure that you designate someone to make flight reservations at least a month before the planned travel.
2. Hotel
Often, the hotel stay will be the most expensive part of the business trip. However, savvy business travelers know that paying the advertised price for a hotel room is often unnecessary. By using sites like Priceline and Hotwire, travelers can book hotels at half the cost or less of the advertised daily rate. Be careful, though. Using these sites takes a little practice. You don’t want to end up booking a hotel that is 30 miles from the trade show. Educate yourself about how to use the sites before trying to use them to save money. But if you get the hang of them, they may save you thousands of dollars over the course of a year on travel.
